Sales History

The first Connemara Pony Sales in Clifden took place on the evening of the Connemara Pony Show in August 1990 with approximately eighty ponies on offer. The sales have expanded since then to include four annual sales, the February sale (new for 2007), the May sale, the August sale which now commences the day after the Connemara Pony show and the October Bank holiday sales which will take place over 5 days for the first time ever in 2007.

The Sales are attended by purchasers from Great Britain, Europe and further afield. Sellers from every county in Ireland bring their ponies to the only sales yard dedicated to the Connemara Pony. Ponies sold at Clifden Sales have achieved successes such as qualifying for Olympia, Horse of the Year Show in the UK, Horse of the Year Show in Clifden and RDS Horse Show Championships.
