Jack The Lad winner of 1.20m Cavan Spring Grand Prix

Ridden by Conan Wright, Jack The Lad won the 1.20m Cavan Spring Grand Prix on the 31st of March 2013.

Jack the Lad was purchased by Heather Wright at the August 2009 Connemara Pony Sales in Clifden. He is a 8 year old grey gelding by Rynn Richard out of Ballinakill Lass. Jack the Lad has been jumping very successfully and he is going from strength under Conan’s guiding hand.

Results for classification of Colts on March 21st & 22nd

50 colts were presented for classification at Mullingar Equestrian Centre on Thursday March 21st and at The Showgrounds in Clifden on Friday March 22nd. From the 30 presented in Mullingar 4 were put into class 1 and from the 20 presented at The Showgrounds in Clifden 7 were put into class 1. CPBS – Latest News

The new council of the Connemara Pony Breeders Society met in the Westwood Hotel in Galway on Tuesday January 29th. The officers elected on the night were as follows, President – Andrew O’Donoghoe. Vice Presidents – Kevin Bolger and Henry O’Toole. Treasurer – Gearoid Curran and Honorary Secretary – John Varley.

At the outset of the meeting the President asked all members present to write down their three objectives for the year on council. The Secretary Niamh Philbin then read out the list from the members. Promotion of the pony, the 90 show coming up this year and the organising of the stallion parade in the end of March were a few of the objectives listed. The formation of the numerous sub committees then took place, followed by a discussion on the recent AGM. It is also suggested that in May of this year the CPBS will hold its AGM for 2012.

Taste of Connemara – 24th March 2013

As part of the Spring Connemara Pony Festival the CPBS are organising a “Taste of Connemara” on Sunday 24th March at the Show Grounds in Clifden to coincide with the annual stallion parade. It will feature a range of Connemara produced food and crafts. If you are interested in booking a space, to sell your produce or crafts, please contact the CPBS on 095 21863. Report from The CPBS 2013 AGM

The Connemara Pony Breeders Society held it’s AGM on Sunday Jan 13th at the Westwood House Hotel in Galway, with 265 members present on the day. Proceedings kicked off at 3pm, CPBS President Mr Andrew O’Donoughue welcomed everyone to the meeting and then continued with his presidential address. Election of members to the 20 person council took place next, with 8 candidates running for the 6 places. After the count the following people were elected, Noel Brett, Bellmullett, Co. Mayo, – Tom Mc Loughlin, Ballinasloe, Co. Galway, – Pearse O’Malley, Oughterard Co. Galway, – Jimmy Mullaney, Moycullen, Co. Galway, – Padraic Keaney, Cashel, Co. Galway & Ciaran Curran, Moycullen, Co. Galway. The new council of 20 will now meet inside the next 2 weeks, to decide on the position of President and all other officers.  The other major issue on the day was a vote on a motion brought before the members regarding the present inspection process. This motion to just have 2 vets inspect all ponies, colts and fillies was defeated by a large majority. The meeting closed at approx 6 30.

AGM of the CPBS

The AGM of the CPBS takes place on Sunday January 13th at 3pm in the Westwood House Hotel in Galway. One of the main items on the agenda will be the election to the council of 6 people. 4pm on Friday January 4th was the closing date for nomination papers to be in the CPBS office, there are 8 people contesting the election. They are:

1 Day Sale commencing Saturday 23rd of February 2013. Entries accepted from 3rd December 2012. Remember by entering online you can upload photos and videos of you pony allowing buyers to see your pony in action before the sale. Closing date for entries if Friday 18th January 2013.

The CPBS has fixed Sunday January 13th to holds its AGM. The venue is the Westwood House Hotel Newcastle, Galway. 6 council seats will be filled by election on the day. All enquires please call 095 21863
